Décio Esteves

Décio Esteves da Silva (born May 21, 1927 in Rio de Janeiro , † December 25, 2000 there ) was a Brazilian football player and coach.

The technically skilled midfielder played from 1950 to 1962 at Bangu AC in west Rio, where he played alongside Zizinho , among others . With 221 games and 88 goals for the club, he is one of the most outstanding players in the history of Bangu AC. In 1951 he was runner-up in the Rio de Janeiro state championship with the Bangu, led by master coach Ondino Viera , and in 1959 under coach Tim third. With Bangu he won the International Soccer League in New York in 1960, alongside Zózimo and Ademir da Guia , a tournament in which the English champions Burnley FC and several other reputable clubs, including FC Bayern Munich , took part. This success is an integral part of the club's folklore and is often viewed there as a club world championship.

In 1962 he played at Campo Grande AC , also based in the west of Rio, after it had been promoted to the first division of Rio de Janeiro for the first time. In 1965 he ended his playing career at Olaria AC in the north of Rio.

With the national team he took part in the South American Football Championship of 1959 in Buenos Aires , where the Seleção finished undefeated behind the hosts in second place. In 1960 he was part of the team that defeated Argentina 4-1 after extra time in Buenos Aires and thus won the Copa Roca played between the two countries . He played a total of three international matches between 1959 and 1960.

As a trainer he worked for the CA Carlos Renaux in Brusque in the state of Santa Catarina . With Campo Grande, he won the Taça de Prata in 1982 , the second highest level of performance in the Brazilian championship at the time, and thus made it to the top , which is the highlight of the club's history.

In 2006, with the approval of a law, a popular restaurant in Campo Grande , the neighborhood where he was born, was named after him in his honor. In this context, he was also recognized for his long presidency at the local Clube dos Aliados , a sports and leisure club, which was characterized by numerous improvements to its facilities, such as the construction of the current club headquarters with sports hall and swimming pool. In addition, reference is made to his marriage, which lasted more than half a century.
