Dénes Berényi

Dénes Berényi (born December 26, 1928 in Debrecen ; † June 27, 2012 ibid) was a Hungarian nuclear physicist , member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and for many years head of the nuclear research activities ATOMKI. He has made a name for himself in physics, especially in the field of electron spectroscopy .

Career

Berényi studied physics at the Lajos Kossuth University in Debrecen . He received his diploma in 1953, his doctorate in 1959 and his habilitation in 1969.

In 1973 he was admitted to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences as a corresponding member. In 1985 he became a full member. He made guest stays at Lomonossow University , Moscow (1959–1960) and at the Nuclear Physics Laboratory Oxford UK (1970–1971). From 1976 to 1991 he was director of the Nuclear Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ATOMKI.

In 1995 the asteroid (5694) Berényi was named after him.

Dénes Berényi was married to Livira Bódor since 1956. They had two children.
