Déraciné

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Déraciné is a virtual reality - Adventure of the Japanese game developer From Software , which on November 6, 2018 exclusively for the PlayStation 4 was released and the ownership of the head-mounted displays PlayStation VR requires. The PlayStation Move controllers are required for control. The lead developer of Déraciné is Hidetaka Miyazaki, known among other things as the creator of the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne .

action

The story takes place in an old, remote boarding school where three boys and three girls live with their aging principal. The player takes on the role of an invisible ghost who lives in a world in which time stands still and observes what is happening in the house. When one of the girls is badly injured, the children ask the ghost to travel through time to prevent the past accident from happening. But changing the timeline triggers unpredictable consequences and does not lead to the desired success. Déraciné thus goes in a similar direction to the plot of the game Life Is Strange or the film Butterfly Effect , which also thematize the possible effects of time manipulation.

Gameplay

The player controls the figure of the invisible ghost with two PlayStation Move controllers, which depict his hands on the screen. Movement takes place by means of teleportation , a target point is sighted and the character appears at the desired location without a running sequence. The course of the game requires that a series of puzzles be solved and that the spacious boarding school is searched for clues and useful objects. However, complications always arise because actions in the past affect the future in an unfavorable way. The goal is to prevent the girl's terrible accident without causing undesirable consequences for the other people.

The reviews for the game's release have been mixed. At Metacritic , Déraciné achieved a rating of 69/100 points, based on 28 reviews from the international trade press. In the reviews of the trade press, the exciting story, the level of difficulty, which is also suitable for beginners, and the graphic perfection, especially on the PS4 Pro, are emphasized.

Criticism points are the short playing time of around five to six hours, the strict linearity of the course of the game and an often rigid and lifeless game world.

"Conclusion:" 'Déraciné' certainly has a very special appeal. The VR adventure captivates with its calm gameplay and the atmospheric atmosphere. The control based on the move controller is not the most precise variant, but it worked properly in the test. 'Déraciné' is playful as a frugal, if at times somewhat stretched-out point & click adventure that 'only' uses the possibilities of time travel and the changes that go with it. ""

“Conclusion:» Anyone who expects a typical From Software game in VR with Déraciné will be a little surprised. Instead of epic battles against monsters, this is a touching story about boarding school children who believe in ghosts. ""

“Conclusion:» With Déraciné, the lead developer Hidetaka Miyazaki wanted to create a small, simple work of art that captivates players beyond the established game mechanics solely through its narration and interaction with digital characters. The result, however, is awkward and wooden. ""
