The Dürr Dental SE is a German company in the dental industry.

The company was founded in 1941 by the brothers Karl and Wilhelm Dürr from Gechingen near Calw in the Black Forest as a precision engineering workshop in Stuttgart-Feuerbach . The current headquarters of the Swabian company is in Bietigheim-Bissingen . 450 people are employed in Bietigheim-Bissingen in the areas of production and logistics, research and development, purchasing, administration as well as sales and marketing. The Dürr Dental Group employs over 1,200 people worldwide.

history

1941 to 1949

In 1941 the brothers Karl and Wilhelm Dürr founded a precision engineering workshop in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. After the end of the war, the workshop in Ludwigsburg was reopened. Articles for domestic use were made and the entry into compression technology took place. In 1946 the company entered the dental field with the manufacture of spare parts for straight and contra-angle handpieces. The development and production of hand and angle instruments with water cooling took place one year later. In 1949 the company was founded as a general partnership K. u. W. Dürr Dental-Fabrikation, based in Ludwigsburg, registered with the IHK .

1954 to 1959

In 1954 the company headquarters was relocated to Etzelstrasse in Bietigheim (today Bietigheim-Bissingen) after the first production hall had been completed there. In 1955 the first mobile suction pump came on the market, this enabled the dentist to work more ergonomically. From 1956 oil-lubricated compressors were manufactured. From 1957 onwards, the range was expanded to include small treatment units as well as polishing and hanging motors. In 1959 the Gechinger Motoren Werke (today Dürr Optronik) were founded as a production facility for motors, assemblies and devices in the Swabian town of Gechingen near Calw in the Black Forest.

1961 to 1969

From 1961 spray mist suction machines were manufactured. In 1964, the mobile Orosuc made it possible to treat lying patients in a sitting position in Europe. In 1965 the first oil-free compressor for dentistry was presented, which worked without cylinder lubricants through the use of Teflon piston rings. This paved the way for preparations using the bonding technique. In the same year the Paradentol spray was introduced, which offered dentists a successful prophylaxis and treatment method for marginal periodontal disease. In 1966 the care and disinfection product Orotol for suction systems was introduced. In 1968 the first fully automatic X-ray film processor Procomat was developed and manufactured on behalf of Siemens . In 1969, the introduction of the Dürr central suction system paved the way for modern multi-room practice suction solutions.

1970 to 1978

In 1970 the company was changed to Dürr Dental GmbH & Co. KG. In 1972 the laboratory business was built up for Degussa with the development and production of the Multivac vacuum embedding unit. From 1973 compressors for North America were produced on Long Island ( New York ) under the name Engineering Dental Industry. In 1974 the dry air system for compressors was introduced to protect dental instruments against oxidation and germ growth in the tank. In 1975 the Dürr 1330 X-ray film processor came onto the market. The complete automation of the X-ray film development of all dental recording formats was made possible. In 1977, Dürr Dental France opened the first company-owned branch abroad. In 1978 the US activities were transferred to the Air Techniques joint venture in Hicksville, New York.

1981 to 1989

In 1981 the company diversified into new business areas with the establishment of Dürr GmbH & Co. KG - Luft- und Processor-Technik. The focus was on pumps and compressors for special industrial applications. In 1982 the company moved to its current headquarters in Bietigheim-Bissingen. In 1983 the company started its own electronics production with circuit board assembly in Gechingen. In 1986, the Dürr System Hygiene for disinfection and cleaning was introduced in the practice and laboratory. From 1987 amalgam separators were produced. In 1989 the first X-ray film processor with immersion tank technology came onto the market. A crystallization of the chemistry on the rollers was prevented, thus ensuring permanently optimal image quality.

1991 to 1999

In 1991 the 50th anniversary was celebrated with a big ceremony under the Bietigheim Viaduct . In 1993 the combination suction unit VSA 300 was introduced, for the first time a combination of suction machine, separating unit and amalgam separator. In 1995 the dental video system VistaCam was introduced to expand the diagnostic possibilities. In 1997 the VistaRay X-ray sensors were introduced, in 1999 the Vector for the therapy and prophylaxis of periodontal disease.

2002 to 2009

In 2002 the imaging plate scanner VistaScan was introduced for reading out X-ray images. In 2004 the handpiece RinsEndo for hydrodynamic root canal preparation was introduced. In 2005 the first fully digital intraoral camera VistaCam Digital was introduced. In 2007, the VistaProof fluorescence camera was introduced to support plaque and caries diagnostics. In August 2008 the legal form was changed to a stock corporation. Introduction of the imaging plate scanner VistaScan Mini in September 2009.

From 2010

From 2010 to 2015 the company is a premium partner of the German Dental Association in the field of hygiene management and imaging procedures. In 2011 the VistaCam iX intraoral camera for intraoral and fluorescent recordings was presented. In March 2013, an arsonist set fire to a Dürr Dental warehouse in Bietigheim, it was completely destroyed and the adjacent production building was partially damaged. The fully digital panoramic X-ray device VistaPano and the intraoral X-ray tube VistaIntra were introduced. In 2015 the radial suction Tyscor VS 2 with the software Tyscor Pulse, the intraoral multi-head camera VistaCam iX HD and the X-ray device VistaPano S Ceph will be introduced. In 2016 Dürr Dental celebrated its 75th company anniversary. In addition, the Hygoglave 90 steam sterilizer, the new VistaVox S 3D X-ray machine and the “Lunos®” brand, a new prophylaxis line, were launched. In 2017, the new production hall at the location of the subsidiary Dürr Optronik in Gechingen was completed for increased production of 3D X-ray machines and circuit boards. On January 15, 2018, Dürr Dental SE was entered in the commercial register and thus the conversion of Dürr Dental AG into an SE was completed.
