Dürrengrün desert area with a view of the Selbitz

Dürrengrün is a desert in the urban area of Helmbrechts in the Upper Franconian district of Hof .

Dürrengrün is located southeast of the city center of Helmbrechts in the border area to the urban area of Münchberg . Today the urban area has grown so that the area of Dürrengrün and the adjoining district of Haide are attached. The Haide street leads to Dürrengrüner Weg, which is reminiscent of the former location. The actual desert, however, lies at the end of the parallel sandy path. To the west of the Selbitzbach and some ponds are the associated radial hoofed meadows. There are still traces that indicate a well system. Multiple extensive finds by Wolfgang Tejkl prove the location. In Seehof Palace as the seat of the central conservation authority numerous findings are documented. The area is protected as a ground monument D-4-5736-0019.

The place appeared from 1381 and is listed in 1386 and 1388 in the sales deeds of the Wolfstriegel to the burgraves of Nuremberg , who sold the rule of Schauenstein, which led to a feud between the burgraves and the bailiffs of Weida in 1402 . In feudal book of Viscount Johann Dürr Green is no longer called. Seiffert, however, identifies the Smorengrün desert mentioned there with eight courtyards with drought green. Haberlah-Pohl attributes the desertification of several localities during this time to a population shift into urban areas ( rural exodus ).
