DEG Rhein Rollers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DEG Rhein Rollers are an inline hockey club from Düsseldorf that participates in the games of the IHD Bundesliga and the German Inline Hockey League (DIHL) as well as the International League of the Royal Belgian Ice Hockey Federation (RBIHF). The roots of the association go back to 1996/97.

The senior team also consists of ice hockey players from the Oberliga and Regionalliga NRW. There are also players who play for Ratingen, Duisburger Füchse , Neusser EV , Herner EG or DEG's youngsters in the DNL during the ice hockey season. Most famous players are u. a. Jan Taube , Thomas Müller, or Christian Müller, Marc Steinhaus, Dennis Kohl, Max Bleyer, Lukas Pfeil. Some of the players are or were also active for the national inline hockey team of the DRIV and make up most of the players in the state selection of North Rhine-Westphalia (RIV). It should be noted that inline hockey is not a professional sport, even if it has gained in importance and popularity in recent years. In addition, the DEG Rhein Rollers have been organizing quite successful youth work since 1998. Many youth players often only specialize in inline hockey and are otherwise not active as ice hockey players, which significantly enhances the sport, which is often called “summer ice hockey”, and emphasizes its existing independence. In the meantime, a year-round game and training operation has been established.

Board & coaching staff

The three-person executive committee of the association is headed by President Dirk Schulz. The vice-president is Christa Sültenfuß. Her husband Dirk-Peter Sültenfuß is the chairman of the board of directors. For a long time, the coach of the first team was Christian Müller, who used to be a successful player himself. From 2011 to 2016 Christian Müller was also the national coach of the IHD. Lukas Pfeil, as captain, led the Rheinrollers to final victory in the IHD Cup in 2019. 5: 0 over Kaufungen. Mannheim came third. A few weeks later, the DEG Rheinrollers fought their way back to the German Championship / IHD in Mannheim thanks to a strong team performance. Frankfurt won the runner-up.

The Bundesliga coaches Armin Lehmann and Jessi Panek also shaped the Bundesliga club's operations in earlier years. Corinna Elspass was the long-time trainer of the U23, U13 and running schools. She was also the women's national coach for the IHD and used to be very successful in women's ice hockey. She was one of the few women ice hockey players who made it to the men's top division. She also had a role as RIV women's representative and regional selection trainer RIV NRW (M / W). She is active as a coach in ice hockey. Christopher Dahl, Philipp Schuhmacher and Tim Löcker were also active as trainers. The U16 was raised from scratch in 2015 and the coaches are full of confidence that these children will one day become the first team and are committed with body and soul. The coaching and organizing staff has also been shaped in modern times by Jan Schultz, Lukas Pfeil and Christian Schimeczek. The coaching staff and the game and training operations are currently being modified. The DEG Rheinrollers started a training offensive in the coaching sector in 2018.

The inline hockey location in Düsseldorf has been recognized as a DRIV base for years and cadre measures for the national teams and the NRW selection team are carried out on a regular basis. There are also trainer, referee and timekeeper training courses.

history

Beginnings

In 1996, an inline hockey league was organized for the first time by the German Ice Hockey Federation, because they wanted to give this new trend sport its own platform. The Rhein Rollers were immediately interested and so they put together a troop of former DEG youngsters who promptly won the championship, which was defended in 1997. In 1996 it was still a subdivision of the DEG ice hockey club, but it was spun off and in the spring of 1997 the DEG Rhein Rollers eV was founded. In the following years, the DEG Rhein Rollers also took part in the German Inline Hockey League (DIHL) relatively successfully. Although they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the playoffs in 1999, they were able to win the title again in 2001 and won the runner-up in 2002 and 2003. In the 2004 season, he switched to IHL Germany, because since 2003 the official German championships have been held under the umbrella of the German Roller Sports and Inline Association (DRIV). Due to the international development, inline hockey is a recognized and sponsored competitive sport by the Federal Committee of Competitive Sports of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The DIHL game is now organized by the German Ice Hockey Federation, with the teams there (including the second Düsseldorf team at the time, the DIHV Gladiators), mainly ice hockey professionals from the top German league, the DEL . The start for the Rhein Rollers in the 2004/05 season was very mixed and they only ended up on the 8th place in the Bundesliga North. The DEG-RheinRollers eV. played and plays in the DIHL, IHD and RBIHF.

Since 2005

In the following two years, the DEG Rhein Rollers were able to establish themselves in the new league and after a 6th place in 2005 they reached 2nd place in the last season 2006 in the Bundesliga North. With 2nd place in the Bundesliga North the DEG Rhein Rollers qualified for the play-offs under the leadership of the new trainer Armin Lehmann. There the DEG Rhein Rollers were eliminated in the semifinals against the Königsbrunn Kangaroos. In the 2007 season they were able to reach second place in the IHD Bundesliga again after a 6: 3 win against the Assenheim Patriots on the last match day and the Rhein Rollers were again in the semi-finals of the German championship. In the final against the Kaufungen Sharks they were defeated both in the home game with 3:13 and in the decisive match in Kaufungen with 5:21. In the first leg, Heiko Büssinger (2) and Jan Philip Priebsch were successful scorers for the Rhein Rollers. The five goals in Kassel, since the second final game was played in the Kassel Huskies ice rink , were scored again by Priebsch (3), Büssinger and Bernd Hausmann. The senior team has been playing in the RBIHF since 2014. In the first season they were the underdog, but the other teams quickly realized that the DEG Rhein Rollers are serious opponents. The last game of the season decided who was the champion and who had to be satisfied with second place. The game against Charleroi was very even, it was 5: 5 shortly before the end, then came a controversial decision by the referee. The clock stood at 00:02 seconds. A player from Charleroi shot at the goal of the Rhein Rollers, guarded by goalkeeper Felix Siry. At the same time as the end of the game (clock 00:00), the puck hit the goal of the DEG Rhein Rollers. The referee gave the goal for Charleroi and thus they became international champions of the RBIHF. In 2015, unfortunately, you could only achieve third place.

2008 season

In the 2008 season, the Rhein Rollers will take part in both the IHD-Bundesliga and DIHL , Division North, Group A. In the 2008 season, DRIV and the German Ice Hockey Association are jointly organizing the German Championship. The IHD-Bundesliga is also played to determine the participant in the European Cup organized by the international association FIRS. The first place after the points round can call himself IHD champion and is also a participant in the European Cup, but he is not the German champion. This will be determined in the DIHL playoff games that will be held from June 7, 2008. With their first place in the North Division, Group A of the DIHL, the Rhein Rollers have home rights in the quarter-final tournament. This tournament will be played with the host as well as the Kaufungen Sharks , Ratinger Ice Aliens and the Celle Oilers in the second hall at the ice rink on Brehmstrasse in Düsseldorf.

2011 season

The 2011 season was successful. Only in the final did the young team around coach Christian Müller have to admit defeat to old and new champions Kaufungen Sharks. Previously, the Sky Rollers from Kassel had been thrown out of the play-offs in three exciting games. The Rhein Rollers were rewarded with participation in the international competition. At the European Confederation Cup at the end of October, the Rhein Rollers qualified for the final round in November, making them one of the 15 best club teams in Europe.

2012 season

The best season for DEG Rhein Rollers in recent years was 2012. With the fifth championship title in the club's history, the DEG Rhein Rollers also played their most successful season ever. After the U20 cup win, the U20 championship, the Oberliga championship of the 1b and the men's cup victory, the victory in the IHD league is the fifth of five big titles that were up for grabs this year. The Rhein Rollers were able to compete against the best teams from Europe and achieved third place in the European Confederation Cup 2012. Since the 2nd senior DEG Rhein Rollers also won the league championship, this team also took part in Bundesliga matches. The second team also served to introduce talented young players to the Bundesliga.

2013 season: four championship titles in one season

One of the best years in the history of the DEG Rhein Rollers club was the 2013 season. The senior team won the German championship on home soil. Under the direction of the trainer Christian Müller and with the active support of Captain Alexander Brinkmann, the DEG Rhein Rollers won the championship trophy with a total of 10 field players and two goalkeepers. The top scorer in the league was Thomas Müller from the DEG Rhein Rollers. The U16 was by far first and also became German champions. The U20 beat Mannheim 7-5 at home in the final of the U20 championship and were also able to defend the German Cup championship. Thus the Rhein Rollers achieved four championship titles in one season.

2014 season: Vice-Champion RBIHF

The senior team won second place when they first participated in the RBIHF Association. The RBIHF is also called the three nations league consisting of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. The U20s also had to admit defeat in the final of the German championship and in the cup final against ISC Mannheim .

2015: U38 World Cup

The decision as to who will host this year's World Championship for hockey players over 38 was made in Germany. The IHD awarded the organization of the World Cup to the Düsseldorf location with the DEG Rhein Rollers association based there. In the past, the DEG Rhein Rollers organized world championships as well as European competitions in different age groups. The Rhein Rollers were happy about the award to Düsseldorf and took over the organizational process of the World Cup under the umbrella of the IHD. The organization of the world championship received a big compliment from the representatives of the FIRS / Comite International de Roller InLine Hockey, Paris, for the good and smooth operation and the provision of two adjacent inline sports areas. Special thanks from FIRS and the participating nations also went to the volunteers at the World Cup. These came mainly from the DEG Rhein Rollers' own ranks. In the end, the Czech Republic beat Italy in the final and deservedly won the World Cup. A special highlight for the student team was the closing ceremony of the World Cup, as they ran with the various national teams. Special thanks also went from FIRS and IHD to the sports city of Düsseldorf for their energetic support.
