German inline hockey league

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Inline Hockey League is an inline hockey league that was organized from 1996 to 2007 by the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). From the 2008 season the league was jointly operated by DEB and Inlinehockey Germany (IHD), the specialist commission in the German Roller Sports and Inline Association (DRIV). In 2017, the league game was ended in favor of a challenge cup.

Game operation

DIHL was founded in 1996 by the German Ice Hockey Federation. In the first few years there were numerous clubs in both the north and south of the republic that took part in the game. Gradually, however, the league developed as a bridging summer under competitive conditions, the championship was held from May to July.

In the north in particular, the clubs that want to participate in the DIHL have become fewer and fewer, so that in the 2007 season only the Düsseldorf IHV Gladiators, which are a spin-off from the Düsseldorfer EG Rhein Rollers , remained. In addition, the first of the "Subdivision" affiliated North German Inline Hockey League (NIHL) took part in the finals.

For the 2008 season, the German Ice Hockey Federation and the Inline Hockey Sports Commission in the German Roller Sports and Inline Association (DRIV), inline hockey Germany (IHD) for short, agreed to operate the DIHL together. The IHD organizes the group matches in the Northern Division, the DEB the organization of the group matches in the Southern Division.

In the DIHL there are above all numerous current but also former ice hockey professionals from the highest German league, the DEL . As in the previous "competition league", the IHD-Bundesliga , there is almost no money to be made. Until 2007, a German champion was determined in both the DIHL and the IHD Bundesliga. From 2008, the joint German champions will only be determined in the DIHL. The Robert Dietrich Cup has existed since 2013 .

The IHD-Bundesliga exists parallel to this, as qualification for the European Cup can only be achieved through the IHD.

In addition, the international associations - the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and World Skate (formerly: FIRS) - organize world championships independently of each other. The International Olympic Committee has recognized World Skate as the "Governing Body" for inline hockey. As a result, the FIRS was the organizing professional association at the World Games 2005 in Duisburg , when inline hockey was first represented at the World Games of non-Olympic sports. The World Games are under the auspices of the IOC.

In the 2009 season, the DIHL was played in four groups due to only two teams outside of Bavaria interested in participating, with only the two teams from North Rhine-Westphalia participating in Group D and directly qualifying for the semi-final tournament.
