German Society for Defense Policy and Defense Sciences

The German Society for Defense Policy and Defense Sciences (DGWW) was an organization during the time of National Socialism in the German Reich . Among other things, it served to spread Nazi propaganda . The company was founded in the summer of 1933 and existed until at least 1943.

The Society's president was Friedrich von Cochenhausen , General of the Artillery.

The society organized military policy and military lectures to the Wehrmacht and the German population. In the first quarter of 1941 the society organized a little more than 4,600 lectures, of which about 1,800 were given to the Wehrmacht. About 450 “speakers” had their say. According to its own information, the company reached around 1.6 million citizens.

In the Gau propaganda lines, the society had so-called "Gau representatives" who were responsible for organizing lectures and discussions within their Gaus. The speakers included various figures from the fields of politics, science and the military, including Reinhard Höhn , Viktor Bruns , Friedrich Grimm , Edmund Glaise-Horstenau . Among other things, they dealt with the most diverse areas of total war .

The society also devoted itself to training in rhetoric. Speakers from National Socialist organizations such as the SS , the SA , the National Socialist Motor Vehicle Corps (NSKK) , the Reich Labor Service (RAD) , the Reich Air Protection Association and the Reich Association of German Officers were trained .

The company's scientific work was organized in working groups:

  • Working group "War History" under Lieutenant Colonel a. D. Foerster
  • Working groups "War Philosophy" and "Defense Economy" under Oberregierungsrat Karl Linnebach and Dr. Osthold
  • Working group "Martial Law" under Admiral a. D. Walter Gladisch
  • Working group military traffic issues under Lieutenant General a. D. Adalbert von Taysen

The works were published in the monthly journals Wissen und Wehr and Militärwissenschaftliche Rundschau . The manual “ Modern Defense Sciences ” by Major General a. D. Hermann Franke was commissioned by the company.
