The Glaser-Dirks DG-100 was the first type of glider , which the glider manufacturer Glaser-Dirks (today: DG Flugzeugbau ) designed from 1973 and which had its first flight on May 10, 1974. It comes from the test models D-37 and D-38 of the Akaflieg Darmstadt , on which Wilhelm Dirks had participated.
The DG-100 is built in GRP construction and has a pendulum control unit . Variants of the DG-100 are DG-100G, DG-101 and DG-101G. These are not improvements in flight performance, only external changes. The suffix G indicates a dampened horizontal stabilizer , the DG-101 has a one-piece hood that opens up to the front instead of the two-part hood - only used on the DG-100 and DG-200. 37 copies with a damped rudder were produced, in 1983 the successor Glaser-Dirk's DG-300 went into series production and production of the DG-100 slowly came to an end.
A total of 327 pieces of this aircraft were built, 105 of them in the factory at Glaser-Dirks and another 222 at ELAN (today AMS Flight) in Slovenia, of which 145 pieces are still registered in Germany today. Due to its very balanced flight characteristics and good flight performance, the DG-100 is one of the most expensive club class aircraft on the used market, alongside the comparable ASW 19 and LS1f models.
