The DJK Turnerbund 08 Ratingen eV is a sports club from Ratingen in the Mettmann district . It was founded in 1908, the club colors are red and white. The sports gymnastics , table tennis and handball are operated by 188 members (as of July 13, 2010).

History of the handball department

The greatest success of the handball department founded in the 1920s was reaching the main round in the DHB Cup in the 1981/82 season. There they failed, however, at the then reigning champion TV Großwallstadt .

In 1982 the handball departments of TB Wülfrath and TB Ratingen merged to form HSG Wülfrath / Ratingen . The 1st men's team of this HSG took part in the game operations of the 2nd handball Bundesliga in the 1982/83 season . In the following season, the professional department of HSG Ratingen / Wülfrath then joined TuRU Düsseldorf - and promptly made it to the top division.

From 1984 the Turnerbund Ratingen then played in the handball regional league West , but had to withdraw from the regional league in 1988 for financial reasons.

Since the new beginning at the district level, the association league has meanwhile been reached. The renewed attempt of a handball syndicate (this time with the handball players from Tus 08 Lintorf) was ended after two seasons. And again the gymnastics association found itself in the district league. Together with the interactive Hösel association , they are now trying to build on old successes in the near future. The first step should be taken with the signing of Anthony Pistolesi and player- coach Marian Bondar .
