DKW front car

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DKW Frontwagen were a series of models from the DKW brand , which were brought onto the market in 1931 by the Zschopauer Motorenwerke JS Rasmussen (part of Auto Union from mid-1932 ). The "front cars" were a protected term for DKW and Auto Union.

In addition to the Adler Trumpf and the Stoewer V 5 , it was the first series vehicles in which front-wheel drive (front-wheel drive) was successfully used in Germany. The name "Frontwagen" was only used as a sales name for the F1 type; later types were referred to as "master class" or "imperial class" .

The following types existed:

  • "Type F1", built from 1931 to 1932, see DKW F1
  • "Type F2", built from 1932 to 1935, see DKW F2
  • "Type F4", built from 1934 to 1935, see DKW F4
  • "Type F5", built from 1935 to 1937, see DKW F5
  • "Type F7", built from 1937 to 1938, see DKW F7
  • "Type F8", built from 1939 to 1942, see DKW F8 - continued production from 1949 to 1955 as IFA F8
  • "Type F9", planned for 1940, see DKW F9 - produced from 1950 to 1956 as IFA F9

In a broader sense, the series also includes the DKW F89 (1950–1954), DKW F91 (1953–1957) and DKW F93 (1955–1959) models, which were manufactured in West Germany by Auto Union , which was newly founded in Ingolstadt .
