Hans Hess (born May 4, 1945 in Lucerne ; resident in Engelberg ) is a Swiss politician (non-party / FDP ) from the canton of Obwalden . He was a member of the Obwalden government from 1981 to 1989 and a member of the Council of States from 1998 to 2015 .

Life

Hess, son of a director of the Obwaldner Kantonalbank , studied law in Bern, Paris and Florence and did his doctorate in Bern in 1975. In 1976 he opened his own law firm. Hess is the father of three children and has been widowed since 2014. He works as a lawyer and notary in Sarnen and also has numerous directorships .

In December 2009, the company information service Moneyhouse named Hess one of the two “mailbox kings of Obwalden” because a total of 67 domiciliary companies are housed at his office address . According to a study by the business information service "Credita" on June 14, 2012, Hans Hess was in the 2012 summer session with 20 board memberships together with SVP politician Peter Spuhler on the list of Swiss federal parliamentarians with the most board memberships. Hess was on the board of directors of Bergbahnen Engelberg-Trübsee-Titlis AG from 1981 to 2016 , and was its president from 1994 to 2016. Hess was a first lieutenant in the Swiss Army .

Political offices

As a non-party, Hess was in the Obwalden Cantonal Council from 1978 to 1981 and in the Government Council from 1981 to 1989 , where he took over the office of Justice Director . In 1989, following a conviction in the tax affair involving Franz Beckenbauer and the company "Heka" (abbreviated from "Hess-Kaiser"), he resigned from his position for "possibly intentional aiding in tax evasion ". On April 26, 1998, the Obwalden Landsgemeinde elected the then non-party Hess to the Council of States . There he joined the FDP parliamentary group . Hess did not stand for the federal elections in 2015 and left the Council of States at the end of the 49th legislative period in November 2015.
