Niklaus Küchler

Niklaus Küchler (born March 3, 1941 in Alpnach ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ). From 1986 to 1998 he was a member of the Council of States of the canton of Obwalden .

Life

Küchler attended the Obwalden Cantonal School , completed his studies with a doctorate in law (Dr. iur.) And worked as a court clerk, lawyer, notary and legal counsel. From 1991 to 1996 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Cheese Union .

Küchler is married and has two children.

Political offices

Küchler was Obwalden Cantonal Councilor and from 1973 to 1987 President of the CVP Obwalden. In 1986 he ran for the Obwalden Landsgemeinde to succeed Wilfried Hophan (CVP), a member of the Council of States , who had renounced a new candidacy due to an affair surrounding the cantonal tax administration, which was subordinate to him as finance director. Küchler won the election very narrowly against the free-thinking rival candidate. From June 2, 1986 to April 29, 1998, he was a member of the Council of States and its President in the 1994/95 session.
