The DKW F2 is a small car with front-wheel drive from the DKW brand , which Zschopauer Motorenwerke JS Rasmussen (from June 1932 part of the newly founded Auto Union ) launched in April 1932 as the successor to the F1 model . By 1935, 27,059 cars (502 of which were two-seater convertibles) had been delivered. Like all DKW “Frontwagen” (protected name), the DKW F2 were built in the Audi factory in Zwickau . The successors were the DKW F4 (1934) and DKW F5 (1935).
The F2 sold with the nickname “Meisterklasse 601” has a more elegant body with more space thanks to its 21 cm longer wheelbase than the previous model . The already used in F1 and forward transversely mounted two-cylinder - the two-stroke engine ( counterrotating twin ) with 0.6 liters capacity and nose piston -Querspülung provides 11 kW (15 hp) at 3500 min -1 . It drives the front wheels via a three-speed gearbox with a stick gear lever. The wagons with a frame made of two steel U-profile longitudinal members have a body made of plywood covered with synthetic leather and independent wheel suspension on double transverse leaf springs at the front and rear . They were available as a two- and four-seater convertible or as a convertible sedan.
From March 1933 improved engines were Schnürle - reverse circulation and two overflow channels installed. Thereby, the output rose to 13 kW (18 HP) at 3500 min -1 . The new vehicle was called the "Reichsklasse" and was available until 1935. At the same time, the "Meisterklasse 701" was on offer, its larger 0.7 liter engine with Schnürle reverse flushing developed 14.7 kW (20 hp).
