The DKW F10 was a car that was offered in small numbers by Auto Union in 1949/50 .

Model history

A comparatively large number of DKW front-end cars survived the Second World War, mainly because the Wehrmacht did not confiscate these cars because they considered them to be too weakly dimensioned for tough war operations. On the other hand, the synthetic leather-covered plywood bodies of these cars were not very durable. That is why the Stuttgart-based company Baur Karosserie- und Fahrzeugbau offered new bodies from 1948 onwards, which were to be used for the reconstruction of pre-war vehicles.

At that time, there were no new DKW cars in the western zones, because the Auto Union plants were now in the Soviet occupation zone , where the last pre-war model was continued to be built as the IFA F8 .

The body of the F10 was significantly more modern than that of the last pre-war model F8, but on the other hand not as advanced as the streamlined body of the F9, which - also in the Soviet occupation zone - was produced as the IFA F9 .

When production of the DKW Schnellaster began in Ingolstadt in 1949 , new parts were also available again. From December 1949 to August 1950, the Baur bodies were therefore also used for new vehicles.

In August 1950, the production of Auto Union's first post-war car, the DKW F89, began . This combined the streamlined body of the F9 with the two-cylinder engine of the F8. The basis was thus removed from the Baur model. For the reconstruction of pre-war cars, however, the Baur bodies were still available until 1952.

A total of 196 new F10 cars were produced from December 1949 to August 1950. In addition, there are 1110 bodies that were used to rebuild pre-war cars.
