DMAIC ( D efine - M easure - A nalysis - I mprove - C ontrol , spoken language: di-meɪk to dt. Define - measure - analyze - Improve - Tax ) represents the phases of a process management -Prozesses. DMAIC is the core process of the Six Sigma quality management approach and is used to design processes in such a way that they stably maintain a predetermined 6 Sigma performance level. DMAIC is used to improve existing products. There is DMADV for new products and DMAEC (E = engineering) for new processes .

The DMAIC combines known procedures and methods into a systematic approach. Similar approaches have been around for a long time, the oldest is likely to be that of Grochla (see also process model ). However, the DMAIC offers the advantage that the tools are linked to one another via the individual phases and the project work is thus structured and systematized chronologically.
