German-Turkish Lawyers Association

The German-Turkish Lawyers' Association is a non-profit, registered association based in Hamburg .

purpose

The association aims to promote the "knowledge and understanding of Turkish law in Germany and German law in Turkey" through events, intercultural encounters and academic work.

history

The association was founded on March 16, 1986 at the instigation of the German-Turkish legal scholar Tuğrul Ansay in Hamburg. The constituent meeting of the association was held at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law . Wolfgang Zeidler , then President of the Federal Constitutional Court, was elected as the founding chairman. He was followed by MPI directors Ulrich Drobnig and later Jürgen Basedow .

Board and members

Berlin constitutional lawyer Philip Kunig has been chairman of the association since 2011 . In addition to the chairman, the current board also includes Tuğrul Ansay (Hamburg / Ankara), Süheylâ Ince Demir (Stuttgart), Hilmar Krüger (Cologne), Heinz-Peter Mansel (Cologne) and Christian Rumpf (Stuttgart). The approximately 400 members of the association are natural and legal persons who are informed every six months by an "information letter" about Turkish law and international legal transactions.
