DVB-IPI

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DVB-IPI / DVB-IPTV is an open digital video broadcasting standard for the transmission of audio and video services via the Internet protocol . IPI stands for Internet Protocol Infrastructure .

development

DVB-IPI is a manufacturer-independent ETSI standard (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). It is a possible and currently the preferred transmission standard for IPTV . It is currently required by the public broadcasters for the transmission of their programs via the Internet Protocol. At the moment, the public broadcasters in the VDSL network of Deutsche Telekom ( Telekom Entertain ), in the Arcor and HanseNet networks can be received unencrypted via the standard.

DVB-IPI was specified as early as 2001, but there are currently very few television sets that support the standard.

technology

With DVB-IPI, the video images are taken from the DVB data stream ( MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC) and then receive an IP frame for distribution over IP networks. In addition to the transmission of free linear television, DVB-IPI also supports so-called “containers”. These implement access through DRM for the transmission of pay-TV and video-on-demand (VoD).
