Nickel Mines is a hamlet in the Beard Township in the US state of Pennsylvania . The place is an important Amish center . The place became famous in 2006 through the rampage of Charles Carl Roberts , a 32-year-old truck driver who shot five children and himself.

In the past, nickel was mined in the area around the village .
