A. and is considered the highest church in the Northern Limestone Alps . It is located in the municipality of Hallstatt in the Gmunden district ( Upper Austria ) and belongs to the Linz diocese . history

The chapel was built in 1913 by the Linz cathedral master builder Matthäus Schlager and consecrated to the most holy altar sacrament on September 1, 1914 by the Linz bishop Rudolph Hittmair . The interior design of the chapel was initially not completed because of the First World War .

On July 26, 1925, a memorial plaque was unveiled in the Dachstein Chapel in memory of Bishop Hittmair.

It was not until 1994 that the interior was designed on the initiative of Hallstatt pastor August Stögner. The altar relief and the celebration table date from this time. In 2013 and 2014 the 100th anniversaries of the laying of the foundation stone and the consecration were celebrated.

In 2015, after an appeal for donations, a renovation took place in which the roofing, the facade and the interior plaster were renewed. The costs of the renovation were partly borne by the state of Upper Austria, the Federal Monuments Office, the Diocese of Linz, the Catholic parish Hallstatt and private donors.
