The Simonyhütte is a Alpenvereinshütte of Alpine Association Austria of the PES in 2205  m height, just below the Hallstatter glacier at the foot of High roof tile . Thus, the shelter is located in the northern part of the Dachstein Mountains high above Hallstatt in Upper Austria , and is in the UNESCO World Heritage area of Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut .

history

In 1843, a rest and emergency accommodation was set up for the first time in Wildkar, below today's hut, then called Hotel Simony , after Friedrich Simony , the pioneer of the Dachstein development. Construction on the current location, which Simony had chosen himself, began in 1876, followed by the ceremonial opening on August 18, 1877. Due to the increasing popularity, new conversions and extensions were quickly necessary, for the first time from 1891 to 1893. Then from 1922 to 1933, a general overhaul followed in 1953 and finally another extension and renovation from 1961 to 1963.

Hotel Simony today

Since 1977, the centenary, there has been an alpine training center and a climbing garden next to the hut. The construction of a sewage treatment plant began in 1989, the old shelter Hotel Simony was completely renovated in 1998 and the Simonyhütte in the following year (reopened July 4th, 1999).

Infrastructure

The hut is not only an important base for mountaineers , who can take longer tours over the Dachstein Mountains from here, but also a mountaineering school, where training courses (for example glacier or climbing courses) are offered. A covered climbing garden is attached .

The Simonyhütte offers numerous opportunities for ski tours and snowshoe hikes in winter . A water tank under the viewing terrace enables the hut to be supplied with water all year round. A biological sewage treatment plant ensures that the alpine area is kept clean.

Right next to the hut is the Dachstein Chapel, the highest church in the Northern Alps.
