The Dachstein Südwandhütte is a private alpine hut at 1871 m above sea level. A. Höhe south of the Hohe Dachstein , the south wall of which rises impressively from here. Politically, it belongs to the municipality of Ramsau am Dachstein in the Austrian state of Styria .

Due to its easy accessibility, the Dachsteinsüdwandhütte is a popular destination for hikers and day visitors. At the same time, it forms an ideal base for the climbing routes as well as the demanding Johann via ferrata in the Dachstein south face , one of the most challenging walls in the Alps.

The cabin is located in the buffer zone of the World Heritage area cultural landscape Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut , and in the nature reserve Northwestern part of Ramsau am Dachstein (plant protection area, NSG 02c ) and the conservation area Dachstein-Salzkammergut , just north of the two major start natural monuments Dachsteinsüdwand and Dachsteinsüdabsturz and Edelgriess glacier .
