Dafydd Rhys "Dave" Williams OC (born May 16, 1954 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian astronaut .

Williams grew up in the Canadian province of Québec , where he attended high school in Beaconsfield . He then studied at McGill University in Montreal and earned a bachelor's degree in biology in 1976 . Seven years later he received his doctorate in human medicine.

Astronaut activity

Williams was selected by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in June 1992 and trained as an astronaut. He was also trained as a mission specialist from 1995 by the US space agency NASA .

As a mission specialist, he took part in the STS-90 mission in April 1998 .

Between July 1998 and September 2002 Williams was director of the Space and Science Live Directorate at Johnson Space Center in Houston ( Texas ).

In August 2007, Williams conducted its second space flight with STS-118 . During the two-week flight, he made three space exits .

On March 1, 2008, Williams retired. He announced that he would soon leave the USA and move to Ontario in Canada.

Williams is married and has two children.
