Daigo Higa

Daigo Higa ( Jap. 比嘉大吾 , Higa Daigo * 9. August 1995 in Urasoe , Okinawa , Japan ) is a Japanese boxer in the flyweight and current WBC world champion in this weight class . He was able to win all of his previous fights early and thus has a 100% knockout rate .

Professional career

On June 17, 2014, Higa successfully made his professional debut against Thai Kongphichit Tosandet with a classic knockout in round 1. He played two more fights in the same year, both of which he won through TKo.

In June 2015 he fought for the vacant youth world champion belt of the WBC when he knocked the still undefeated Thai Jakkrawut Majoogoen (14-0-0-) hard. He defended this title in November of the same year against Renren Tesorio and in March of the following year against Romel Oliveros by knockout.

Higa competed against Ardin Diale on July 2, 2015 for the title of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) and won the 4th round by knocking out. His first and only title defense of this belt in November of the same year against Felipe Cagubcob junior brought the same result.

On May 20, 2017, Higa faced Mexican title holder Juan Hernandez Navarrete in a WBC world championship match . Higa defeated the Mexican in the 6th round with a technical knockout and dethroned him.
