history

The Erik Chronicle according Dalaborg was in 1304 on the orders of the Dukes Erik and Valdemar , the sons of Magnus Ladulås created previously in the power struggle with her brother King Birger City Lödöse had burned down. In the following winter, the castle was besieged by King Birger and a peace treaty was signed in the spring of 1305. After that, the castle was not mentioned in the sources for more than 50 years between 1309 and 1367, so that it was considered abandoned during this time.

Building

Dalaborg was examined in 1938–39. Moats, ramparts, a terrace and the remains of a stone house have been preserved. The ground floor of the main building took advantage of the terrain in the south and east, so that an L-shaped block made of natural stone was erected in the north and west to complete the floor. The walls are four meters thick and three and a half meters high. Originally they were plastered, but this is no longer visible today. A wooden structure was erected on the stone substructure, which is also no longer preserved. The beam holes in the walls are evidence of this. About 30 meters west of the main building is a plateau bordered by a sand wall. Adjacent to it runs a moat with a heaped wall, which was dated to the second half of the 14th century.

A model of Dalaborg Castle before it was destroyed is in the Mellerud Museum.
