Mellerud is a place in the historic province of Dalsland in southern Sweden , about 45 kilometers north of Vänersborg on the west side of the Vänern . Mellerud is the capital of the municipality of the same name and is located on the main road and railway line Gothenburg – Kil .
history
With the opening of the railway lines from Gothenburg to Kil and from Sunnanå to Kornsjö and on to Oslo in 1879, Mellerud became a railway junction. In 1908 Mellerud got city rights as Köping ( minor town ) with a population of about 600 .
