Damian Scholl (* 1988 in Schweinfurt ) is a German composer .

Life

During his school days Damian Scholl played the violin and viola in several ensembles , for which he also composed his own pieces. From 2008 to 2013 Scholl studied at the University of the Arts in Berlin with Walter Zimmermann and Daniel Ott , and in 2012 he also completed a stay abroad in Glasgow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland . This was followed by a degree in film music at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf , which Scholl completed with a master's degree. Today Damian Scholl lives and works in Berlin .

Damian Scholl composes film scores, but also works for solo instruments in various ensembles and concerts for orchestra. So far, he has received composition commissions a. a. from Deutschlandfunk , the German Music Council , the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival and the Kissinger Sommer .

In 2015 Scholl received 1st prize at the German Music Competition for Ghostbird , a composition for violin , clarinet and piano . Together with the film composer Ulrich Reuter , Scholl wrote the music for Andres Veiel's documentary Beuys , which premiered at the Berlinale in 2017 . For this music, both musicians were nominated in 2017 for the German Film Music Prize and in 2018 for the German Film Prize in the category “Best Film Music”.

In 2019, Scholl's opera Orfeo Reflections , a new version of the opera Orfeo ed Euridice by Christoph Willibald Gluck, premiered at the Kissinger Sommer .
