Anton Johann Albert The Losen (born January 12, 1814 in Groß-Burlo, Borken district ; † July 18, 1888 in Detmold ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 11th field artillery brigade .

Life

Anton was the son of forester Nikolaus Leopold The Losen (1773-1821) and his wife Margarete Luise, née von Noel (1776-1848).

Military career

Losen first attended high school in Münster and after graduating on January 12, 1831, he joined the 4th Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army . For further training he graduated from the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 1831 to September 1835 and was then appointed as an extra-budget second lieutenant to the artillery officer. On January 2, 1836 he was transferred to the 7th Artillery Brigade and in 1845/49 he was adjutant of the 1st Division. In the meantime promoted to prime lieutenant, Losen also worked as a teacher at the division school of the 13th Division in 1848/50 . He was promoted to captain on June 22, 1852 and appointed battery chief on February 20, 1854 . From June 1856 to April 1858 he was employed as an artillery officer from the square in Jülich . On May 1, 1858, Losen was transferred to the 3rd Artillery Regiment and on September 13, 1859, under position à la suite of the 5th Artillery Regiment, he was appointed a member of the Artillery Examination Commission and the Examination Commission for Prime Lieutenant of the Artillery . In this position, Losen rose to major in mid-September 1860 and was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown III for his work . From October 10th to November 6th, 1861 he was assigned to the Maria Zell casting plant to revise the rifled guns of the German Confederation . On June 17, 1862 Losen was appointed commander of the III. Department of the Rhenish Artillery Department No. 8 and awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown in mid-October 1862 . On March 19, 1866 he was appointed commander of the equestrian department and in the same year he took part in the battles at Münchengrätz and Königgrätz during the war against Austria . After he had been promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 8, 1866 , Losen was appointed director of the United Artillery and Engineering School in Berlin on October 10, 1866 after the peace agreement . From there, on July 9, 1867, he was transferred to the War Ministry as head of the technical department for artillery matters, and on March 22, 1868, he was promoted to colonel .

During the war against France , after the fall of the fortress Metz , Losen was commanded from November 24, 1870 to December 3, 1870 to assess the industry and supplies there. On March 29, 1871, he received the Crown Order II. Class, was appointed commander of the 11th Artillery Brigade on July 31, 1871, and was promoted to major general on March 22, 1873. With the award of the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves, Losen was put up for disposal on April 13, 1875 with a pension . He died on July 18, 1888 in Detmold.

In his assessment from 1845 it says: “Of good morality, combined with a decent demeanor and liveliness of character, he is also in possession of a good general scientific education. In the service he is zealous, prudent and agile and therefore a very useful officer. "

On September 22, 1840, he married Marie Sophie Helwig (1820–1850) in Münster. Several children emerged from the marriage, including their son Felix (1852–1890), who married Martha Neuhaus in 1882.
