Damien Top

Damien Top (born July 13, 1963 in Rouen ) is a French tenor and composer . He is a member of the executive committee of the Lotte Lehmann Foundation (USA), is a research assistant at the Istituto Judaica di Barletta (Bibliotheca della Memoria), is chairman of the Association des Amis de Claude Delvincourt and of the "Center International Albert-Roussel" which he founded in 1992 "and is the artistic director of the Festival International Albert-Roussel .

Life

Damien Top is the son of the poet Andrée Brunin . After studying humanities in Lille , he graduated from the University of Paris X Nanterre with a diploma in German Language and Cultural History and at the same time studied performing arts and music at the State Conservatory of Music of the Lille Region (Conservatoire National de Région de Lille). At the State Music Academy in Paris (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris) he took the class of Nicole Broissin (Atelier Lyrique - Opérette) and took lessons from Isabelle Aboulker ( Solfège ) and Rémy Corazza ( voice training ). Damien Top also worked with Galina Vichnievskaïa , Jacques Herbillon and Jean-Christophe Benoit and learned conducting with Michel Quéval and Sergiu Celibidache . He directed the Orchestra of the Albert Roussel Festival, the Ensemble Joseph Jongen, the Solistes de Brno, the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of the Czech Republic , the Philharmonic Orchestra Mihail Jora, etc.

His dual training as an actor and singer allows him to produce himself on French and foreign stages in a varied repertoire, which includes operas, chamber music and operettas as well as musical and poetic recitals.

He also wrote the biographies of Albert Roussel , Sergei Rachmaninov , René de Castéra (awarded by the "Salon du Livre" in Hossegor), and Émile Goué . He was visiting professor at several universities in the Pacific and North America (Melbourne, Monash, La Trobe, Wollongong, Wellington, Hawaii, Sherbrooke, Montréal, New York ...).

Various composers wrote works for him: Isabelle Aboulker, Edwin Carr, Françoise Choveaux, Maryse Collache, Harry Cox, Houston Dunleavy, Alain Féron, Jean-Jacques Flament, Wally Karveno, Max Pinchard , Jean-Christophe Rosaz, Horia Surianu, Peter Tahourdin, Robert Trumble, Felix Werder and Jacques Chailley . Damien Top recorded several cycles by Jules Massenet as well as romances by Edmond de Coussemaker and melodies by Émile Goué and Claude Guillon-Verne , especially with BNL and RCP .
