Daniel Thomas "Dan" O'Shannon (born March 10, 1962 in Ohio ) is an American screenwriter and film producer .

Life

O'Shannon attended Painesville Riverside High School. After graduating from high school, he appeared as a stand-up comedian at the Cleveland Comedy Club. He studied at Cleveland State University in the early 1980s , where he also wrote for the student magazine Cauldron .

O'Shannon began writing and producing screenplays, primarily for television series, in the mid-1980s. He wrote and produced several books for episodes of the series Newhart , Cheers and Frasier . For the series Modern Family , for which he wrote a total of 15 episodes between 2009 and 2014, he won five Emmys for best comedy series. An exception in O'Shannon's work is the work on the animated short films Redux Riding Hood (1997) and The Fan and the Flower (2005), for which he wrote the screenplay. For Redux Riding Hood , O'Shannon was nominated for an Oscar in 1998 for Best Animated Short Film.

In 2012, O'Shannon published his first book, What Are You Laughing At? A Comprehensive Guide to the Comedic Event . In 2014 followed the adventures of Mrs. Jesus ( The Adventures of Mrs. Jesus ). In 2015, The History of Us was the first television film for which O'Shannon wrote the script.
