Lake Danao National Park |
Lake Danao is a lake on Leyte Island in the Philippines . It is located about 10 km northeast of Ormoc City in the province of Leyte . The lake covers an area of around 1.97 km² at the foot of Mount Danao at a height of 640 meters above sea level.
Flora and fauna
The green alga Cladophora sp is common in the lake. The dominant macrophytes include Panicum hemitomon and Hydrilla sp . The riparian vegetation is determined by a dense rainforest , which is interspersed with clearings with grass vegetation - with dominating silver hair grass ( Imperata cylindrica ).
The lake, on average 82 meters deep, has a large fish population with the following species: milk fish ( Chanos chanos ), predatory catfish ( Clarias sp. ), Tilapia , carp ( Cyprinus carpio ) and Glossogobius giurus . The lake also has a large population of various water birds .
National park
The 15 km² Lake Danao National Park was established around the lake in 1965 . This was expanded to 21.93 km² on February 3, 1998, by the NIPAS Act of 1992 in the Philippine Program for the Protection of Biodiversity , in which the Lake Danao Natural Park was listed in the appendix to the law.
