Adolf Jannasch

Adolf Jannasch (born June 7, 1898 in Heidelberg , † April 23, 1984 in Berlin ) was a German art historian .

Life

Jannasch was born as the son of the chemist Paul Jannasch . He attended high school in Heidelberg and from 1918 studied art history, archeology and music history at the universities of Heidelberg and Berlin , among others with Carl Neumann and Adolph Goldschmidt . After receiving his doctorate in 1923 with Neumann in Heidelberg, he was a research assistant at the State Museums in Berlin . Between 1927 and 1945 he wrote as an art history editor for Propylaen Verlag . From 1945 onwards he was head of the office for fine arts at the magistrate and senate of Berlin. In 1955 he was appointed director of the “Gallery of the 20th Century”. Their holdings have been in the Neue Nationalgalerie since 1968 .

From 1945 Adolf Jannasch was born with Alice. Breu married. Their son Alexander Jannasch became a lawyer and judge at the Federal Administrative Court.
