history

From 1979 there was a first version of the Danceteria on 37th Street. Here the concept of merging several music floors with art exhibitions and live concerts was successfully tried out. The club was closed in 1980 due to a lack of a serving license.

In 1982 the most famous danceteria on 21st Street was now legally opened. The club, which is open every day, had several floors and provided a small stage for concerts. There was Aztec Camera , Sade Adu , Alien Sex Fiend , Malaria! , Nina Hagen , Marc Almond , Run-DMC and, for the first time, the up - and-coming singer Madonna . There were always art happenings, fashion shows and exhibitions.

From 1990 onwards there was a third version of the club in a hotel on 30th Street. This was followed by other versions of the club in Southampton until 1995.
