Danger Iceland (dt. About Danger Island ) is situated on the southwestern island of Great Chagos Bank ( Large Chagosbank ) that the world's most extensive Atoll has structure. The island belongs geographically to the Chagos Archipelago and politically to the British Indian Ocean Territory .
The flat island is about 2 km long, has an area of 0.66 km² and is overgrown with tall coconut trees. The name arose from the fact that it is difficult to anchor off the island. A visit to this island was always associated with a risk for the ship and the crew.
Danger Island has never been continuously inhabited. Between 1750 and 1950, Chagossians residing on other islands were occasionally brought to Danger Island to collect coconuts .
