Danger from the deep

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Danger from the Deep (also known as dangerdeep , German  risk into ) is a free computer game in which the submarine warfare during World War II from a German perspective simulates is. The player takes control of a German submarine and controls all essential functions such as the engine , rudder system , trim and torpedo system in the sense of a tactical simulation . The game has graphics that are comparatively complex for free software, and the game concept was compared to Silent Hunter . The game is primarily developed for Linux , the current version is said to have problems under Windows .

control

The submarine is controlled on the one hand with the keyboard and on the other hand with the mouse. With the keys F1-F12 you can switch between the individual stations, which are mostly implemented in 2D. In these stations you can still make various settings (e.g. regulate the speed, load torpedo tubes with torpedoes), some of which can also be set using the keyboard. Stations such as the turret, the binoculars (both only available when the submarine has surfaced) or the exterior view are, however, implemented in 3D. The buttons 1–9 can also be used to control the speed and the direction of travel (forwards and backwards).

Game modes

Danger from the Deep is playable in several different game modes:

In the convoy battle mode you first select a convoy size, any escort ships and your own submarine. It's about sinking a whole group of merchant ships. Due to the game approach of the physically and historically correct simulation, the approach to a convoy alone requires a considerable amount of time.

In the historical mission mode you can choose between different time periods and then play a historical mission that took place at that time. This mode is not yet fully implemented. When it is finished, however, you should be able to re-enact the greatest events of the years 1939–1945.

The attack on a warship mode is not yet implemented in the current version, but you will have to carry out an attack on an enemy warship .
