Daniel Aceves
Daniel Aceves Villagran (born November 18, 1964 in Mexico City ) is a retired Mexican wrestler . He won a Greco-Roman style silver flyweight medal at the 1984 Olympics .
Career
Daniel Aceves comes from a Mexican wrestling family. His father Roberto Bonales was active in North American wrestling rings for many years under various stage names such as Blue Demon, Black Shadow or El Santo. Like him, his brother Roberto participated in the wrestling tournament at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles .
Daniel Aceves wrestled, which is remarkable for his father, who was a freestyle wrestler, only in the Greco-Roman style. As a teenager he took part in the Junior World Championships in Colorado Springs in 1980 (Cadets = age group up to the age of 16) and won the junior world championship title there in paper weight (up to 48 kg body weight) before the later Olympic champion Vincenzo Maenza from Italy . He also went to the junior world championship in 1980 for Juniors (age group up to 18 years of age) in Stockholm and reached 4th place in paper weight.
In 1982 he took a very good 2nd place among the seniors in Havana at the Central American & Caribbean Games in flyweight (up to 52 kg body weight) behind Cuban Jorge Martinez. He also won a medal at the 1983 Pan-American Games in Caracas . Here he only had to leave Edmundo Miranda from Cuba and Mark Fuller from the United States in front of him as third in the flyweight division .
At the Central American & Caribbean Games in Las Tunas in 1984 he came back to second place behind the Cuban Angel Torres in the flyweight division. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Daniel Aceves seized the opportunity. He lost his first fight against Erol Kemal from Turkey in his pool, but then defeated Gares from Ecuador , Hu Richa from China and Taisto Halonen from Finland . Since Kemal lost his next two fights after his victory over Daniel Aceves, he became the winner of his pool and fought against Atsuji Miyahara from Japan for the gold medal. Miyahara won this fight with 9: 3 technical points. Daniel Aceves won the silver medal with it .
In 1985 Daniel Aceves started in Tokyo at an invitation tournament, the so-called World Super Championships, and came in second behind Isao Kawamoto from Japan. He then did not contest any other international championships.
In addition to his international successes, he won a total of ten titles in the individual age groups (youth, juniors, seniors) at the Mexican championships.
After his wrestling career, Daniel Aceves worked in business and has been president of the wrestling wrestling association NWA since 2009.
