Daniel Cloete (* 1825 or 1830 ; † July 6, 1894 near the Spitzkoppe ) was an evangelist, Bible translator and translator.

His father, Willem Cloete was a baptized Nama .

When Daniel Cloete was twelve years old and his younger brother Claas had died, his mother gave him to Carl Hugo Hahn from the Rheinische Missionsgesellschaft , whom he followed for about 30 years. The stolen 10-year-old Ovaherero, whom they called Franz, was given to them by the aged Capitain von Steinkopf, Abraham Vigeland. Cloete complemented himself with Franz in translation.

In 1868 Cloete built the Rhenish Mission House , initially as a five-room clay house and a church made of clay. This is where the place Omaruru emerged . His neighbor, Gottlieb Viehe, began translating the New Testament into the Herero language here in 1874 .

In 1869 he moved to Springbokfontein near Okombahe . In 1870, with the support of Hahn, he founded a mission station in Okombahe , which he ran with his eldest daughter Anna until 1880. His disciples were Bergdamara and Namaqua. Gardens and fields were then destroyed during the war and rebuilt from 1882 by the missionary Caspar Heinrich Niederwelland (1848–1885).

In 1883 he left the Rhenish Mission Society and preached near Swakopmund until his death .

He and his wife had at least five children. It is believed that all Cloetes in Namibia are descended from them.
