He made his debut in the World Cup in December 2005 in Turin . The only appointment in the season with runs over 1500 meters and in a team. Here he finished 29th in the B group over 1500 meters and 5th in the team.
In the 2008/09 season he made the jump into the A group over 1500 meters. With 18th place in Heerenveen , he was able to achieve his best result over this distance. In the team run he won silver with Johan Röjler and Joel Eriksson . At the individual distance World Championships in Richmond , Canada , Friberg was able to occupy 19th place over 1500 meters. The Swedish trio took silver in the team run. The time the three ran in the first pair could only be beaten by the Dutch. Friberg, Röjler and Eriksson won the first medal at the individual distance world championships for Sweden.
In 2010 Friberg switched to the team CBA. On January 7, 2011, Herbert Dijkstra announced during the 2011 European Championships that Friberg had an accident during training. On October 25, 2011, Friberg announced his immediate retirement from competitive sports.
