Daniel Heinrich von der Heydt
Daniel Heinrich von der Heydt (born June 6, 1767 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ), † August 6, 1832 in Wiesbaden ) was a German entrepreneur and politician.
Life
Daniel Heinrich von der Heydt was born the son of the Elberfeld master baker Johannes von der Heydt (1730–1810) and his wife Klara Elisabeth Klute (1730–1795). On May 15, 1794, he married the banker's daughter Wilhelmine Kersten (1771-1854), whose father Abraham Kersten (1733-1796) had founded the Elberfeld banking house von der Heydt-Kersten in 1754 together with his brother Caspar Kersten . Daniel Heinrich von der Heydt later joined the father-in-law's bank as a partner and helped the institute to flourish unexpectedly. Von der Heydt had nine children with his wife, some of whom later also entered the banking business, including August von der Heydt (banker, 1801) , who later became finance minister .
politics
As an influential banker, von der Heydt had many supporters among the residents of Elberfeld. In the mayoral election on May 1, 1805, he was on the list of proposals for the first time and was immediately able to prevail against the merchants Johann Peter van der Beeck, Johann Jakob Plücker and Johann Heinrich Maurenbrecher. He was elected mayor of Elberfeld for one year and as such was appointed city judge the following year, as was customary at the time. His successor in the office of mayor was Johann Rütger Brüning , who was also elected the first Lord Mayor of Elberfeld under Prussian rule after the wars of liberation .
