Life

Daniel Jenny was born on July 13, 1751 in Glarus as the son of the merchant Jost Jenny. Around 1783 Daniel Jenny founded the German dealership "Jenny & Streiff" with his brothers Fridolin and Jost and the brothers Peter Paul and Jakob Streiff from Glarus . They were joined by Johann Balthasar Trümpy from Ennenda, who until then had run another German store with his three brothers .

The company sold canvas and cotton goods , writing boards, Glarnertee and Schabziger at the trade fairs in Zurzach , Frankfurt am Main , Frankfurt an der Oder , Leipzig , probably as far as Danzig and Königsberg . After initial successes, the Napoleonic Wars and, after 1815, the customs policy of German princes restricted this trade. The company was finally dissolved in 1819.

Daniel Jenny married Christina in 1777, the daughter of the marksman and stocking manufacturer from Glarus Fridolin Zweifel. He died on March 24, 1834 at the age of 82 in Glarus.
