Daniel Jeffrey Jones (born December 23, 1986 in Wordsley ) is an English football player . The Wolverhampton Wanderers trained left midfielder and offensive full- back only came to regular appearances during his loan periods at the third-rate Northampton Town and Oldham Athletic and has been under contract with Sheffield Wednesday since the beginning of the 2010/11 season .

Athletic career

Born in the village of Wordsley south of Wolverhampton , Daniel Jones joined the Wolverhampton Wanderers youth team at the age of ten and was fully integrated into the club's academy from the age of 16. Shortly after his 18th birthday, he signed his first professional contract in January 2005 after breaking his leg in a training accident in autumn 2004. He made his debut on April 1, 2006 for the second division team in the 2-0 defeat by Plymouth Argyle and it was followed by eight league appearances in the 2006/07 season. The final breakthrough did not materialize, especially in the second half of the season.

Jones only came back to match practice in August 2007 when he was loaned to third division club Northampton Town until January 2008 . It was there that he developed his strengths, which were quick acceleration and a physical game, and was a regular player right from the start. Shortly after his return to the "Wolves" and a short stint for his hometown club against Sheffield Wednesday (2-1), the "Cobblers" convinced the club management in March 2008 to borrow again, which then lasted until the end of the season.

In the 2008/09 season, the "Wolves" decided to tie Jones to a new contract until 2010 in the medium term, but after the good experience in the previous season to help him get back to match practice with a new loan business. The choice fell on the third division club Oldham Athletic , which Jones originally wanted to borrow for a month, but then after a successful debut, achieved an extension until January 3, 2009. A week earlier than planned, Jones initially returned to the "Wolves" due to a knee injury, but then played as in Northampton from February 2009 at the "Latics" in Oldham to the end of the season. In September 2009 he moved - once again on loan - to fourth division Notts County and despite some rumors of a permanent transfer Jones returned to the Wolves at the turn of the year. After another loan period with the Bristol Rovers from February 2010 to the end of the 2009/10 season, he signed a new three-year contract with third division Sheffield Wednesday .
