Daniel Mahnken (born November 3, 1977 in Zeven ) is a German floorball trainer , former floorball player and sports scientist .

Athletic career

Mahnken began his sporting career as a footballer with the Lower Saxony club TuS Zeven. In 1988 he moved to the junior division of the upper division soccer club TuS Heeslingen in whose men's team he later played until he started his studies at the German Sport University in Cologne in 2001. Mahnken first came into contact with floor ball sports through university sports in Cologne. During a stay abroad in 2004 in Jyväskylä / Finland he played floorball for the Säynätsalon Riento (SäyRi) club. After his return to Germany Mahnken was active in the 2nd Floorball Bundesliga at ASV Köln . In July 2013 he moved to league competitor SSF Dragons Bonn , where he ended his playing career in 2015.

Daniel Mahnken is particularly successful as a floorball coach. The women’s team of ASV Köln that he coached competed in the 1st Floorball Bundesliga Women West. Since the 2013/14 season he was the trainer of the floorball players at SSF Dragons Bonn.

From 2010 to 2012 Mahnken was also assistant coach of the German U19 national team for women.

Education

Daniel Mahnken studied sports science at the German Sport University Cologne and at the University of Jyväskylä / Finland . He presented his diploma thesis in 2006 on the subject of "The efficiency of early coach changes in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga with regard to the goal setting for the season". He then worked as a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Training Science and Sports Informatics at the German Sport University Cologne.

Stations as a trainer

ASV Cologne coach

The women's floorball team of the ASV Köln, trained by Daniel Mahnken, became champions of the Regionalliga West in the small field in the 2010/11 season and then took part in the final round of the German championship. There they took 3rd place. The following year, the ASV floorball players were runner-up, but qualified for the German championships, where they finished 5th.

After promotion to the 1st Floorball Bundesliga Women West, the team trained by Mahnken made it into Final4, the final of the German Floorball Cup, in 2012. There they lost 1: 5 to the two-time German champions UHC Weißenfels in the semifinals.

In the 2012/13 season Daniel Mahnken won the Regionalliga West championship with the floorball players of ASV Köln.

Trainer of the SSF Dragons Bonn

After the 2012/2013 season, Daniel Mahnken was hired by SSF Dragons Bonn to continue expanding women's floorball and make it successful in the federal city. Immediately in the first season after the change of coach, the Bonn floorball players were both champions of the Regionalliga Women West on the large and small fields in the 2013/14 season. In the same season, the women's team also won the NRW Cup and took fifth place in the German championships on the small field. At the end of the season, Daniel Mahnken also took over the coaching of the U16 juniors at SSF Dragons Bonn in preparation for the German championships in Munich . Bonn entered the final round with the youngest squad of all participating teams and sensationally won the bronze medal.

In the following season Daniel Mahnken reached Final4 with his team called "Floorball Ladies". It was the first time that a Bonn women's floorball team made it to the cup finals. In the semifinals, however, they had to admit defeat to MFBC Grimma 4:12.

After a phase of upheaval in the team, in which many young up-and-coming players were integrated into the team, the newly formed SSF Dragons Bonn Floorball Ladies won the championship in the Regionalliga West for the second time in the 2016/2017 season. Due to the predominantly young and inexperienced players, Mahnken and the team decided not to take advantage of the possible promotion to the 1st floorball Bundesliga women. The 2017/2018 season was followed by the most successful season of a Bonn women's floorball team to date.

Since no women's games were possible in North Rhine-Westphalia in the 2017/2018 season, the floorball players of SSF Dragons Bonn competed in the men's West Association League. Here they took 3rd place. In addition, they took part in the game operations in the Regionalliga West Damen Kleinfeld, where they qualified for the German championships as second in the table. In the final round that followed, the team trained by Daniel Mahnken became German champions for the first time. The Bonn floorball ladies also made it into Final4 in Berlin this season - as the only non-Bundesliga team. In the semifinals they were able to defeat the Dümptener Füchse with 4: 2 and thus moved into the German Cup final. In a thrilling and hard-fought match, they had to admit defeat in the end 2: 4 against the reigning German champions MFBC Grimma.

The floorball players of SSF Dragons Bonn have been playing in the 1st women's floorball league since the 2018/2019 season .

Coach of the women's U19 national team

As the coach of the German U19 national team for women, Daniel Mahnken has played in twelve international matches so far. At the world championship held in Nitra / Slovakia from May 1st to 5th, 2012, the selection he coached won the bronze medal in the B division.
