From 1951 Mróz worked regularly for the Cracow weekly Przekrój as well as other newspapers and periodicals. Soon he was one of the most famous Polish cartoonists; his drawings “full of eerie humor and strange happenings” often got by without any caption. His first book illustration appeared in 1953.

Since then he has illustrated more than 50 other books, designed dozens of stage and television sets, participated in international exhibitions in Europe, the USA, Latin America and China, and shown at least six solo exhibitions. In later years he became one of Poland's leading poster designers ; his work in this field has often been exhibited at home and abroad. Mróz received a number of prizes for his work, including the first prize of Polish TV for stage design and television graphics in 1968 , as well as the second prize at an exhibition for Polish graphics and book illustration in Warsaw .

Jerzy Jan Kwiatkowski published a book about Daniel Mróz in 1959. The writer and director Piotr Andrejew shot the short film Idzie Mróz in 1973 ("Mróz is coming", a play on words with the meaning of the surname Mróz "Frost, Reif"), which was awarded several prizes.
