Daniel N. Tobler

Daniel "Danny" N. Tobler (born July 31, 1939 in Reinach BL ; † April 4, 2011 ) was a Swiss manager and concert organizer.

Live and act

Tobler was first a full-time hotel specialist, where he rose to become vice director of a hotel. Then he worked as an import-export manager in Zug before moving to the chemicals division. At the Beiersdorf Group, he initially worked as a product coordinator in the global cosmetics market and developed a line of cosmetics for aging people for the first time. He was then managing director and director of the Swiss BDF Beiersdorf in Münchenstein . As such, he was honored as an honorary member of the Swiss Cosmetics and Detergent Association. Tobler, who was also an amateur musician ( cello , double bass ), was best known for his contributions to jazz culture in the Basel region and Switzerland: from 1970 to 1972 he organized the Whitsun Jazz Days in Vitznau. In 1972 he founded the Amateur Jazz Rock Festival , which took place in five regions of Switzerland and from 1973 to 1981 its final took place in Augst . He continued to organize many concerts with Swiss musicians (such as the Basel Jazz All Star Reunion , the Basel Jazz Week or the Basel Casino Festival ). For his services to the Swiss amateur jazz festival in Zurich , the Pro Augst association with open air concerts, the Basler Jazz Weeks and as an artistic consultant for the AVO Session Basel, he received the Golden JAP Note in 1999 . He was also the first president of the Basel Jazz School, and in this role he helped it develop into an equal part of the Basel City Music Academy .

He also emerged as a bass player: He played in Dixieland and swing bands (including the Svannah Junk Men ) and was also involved in a record production as a companion for Albert Nicholas in 1970. In the last years of his life he was mainly active as a cellist in chamber music ensembles.
