Daniel Sánchez Arévalo (born June 24, 1970 in Madrid ) is a Spanish screenwriter and film director .

The 2007 Goya winner for the best young director was described as the most promising director from Spain since Almodóvar .

Born in Madrid in 1970, Sánchez Arévalo became known as the writer of scripts for the successful Spanish television productions Hermanas and Ellas son así , for which he has been writing since 1993. He began his directorial work while studying business administration at Columbia University New York, which he completed with a master's degree. His 2003 film Exprés was nominated in 2004 for the Spanish Goya Film Award in the Best Short Film category. For Fisica II he received numerous national and international prizes and reached the Oscar preselection of 2005 in the short fiction category. La Culpa del alpinista is based on a template by Julio Médem and was shown at the 61st Venice Film Festival in 2004 in the selection of Corto Cortissimo . For his first feature film, AzulOscuroCasiNegro , he received the Goya for best young director in 2007.

In 2015 he received the second prize of the renowned Premio Planeta for his debut novel La isla de Alice .
