Daniel of Padua († 168 in Padua ) was a Christian martyr and saint .
According to his saints legend, Daniel is said to have been of Jewish origin and a deacon of the first bishop of Padua, Prosdocimus . However, Prosdocimus is reported to have been sent to Padua by the apostle Peter himself and died there around 100, while Daniel's martyrdom takes place in the year 168, i.e. much later. Daniel was tortured to death between a stone and a wooden board studded with nails.
Daniel is venerated as a saint. His feast day is January 3rd . His bones were found in the 11th century and transferred in 1064. Daniel is the patron saint of Padua and Treviso .
