Danieska Carrión

Danieska Carrión (born June 9, 1980 ) is a former Cuban judoka who was third in the 2001 and 2003 world championships.

Athletic career

Danieska Carrión fought in the super lightweight, the weight class up to 48 kilograms. In 1998 she won the U20 World Championships. From 2001 to 2003 she won the Cuban championships.

In early 2001 she reached the finals at the Tournoi de Paris and was then defeated by the French Sarah Nichilo-Rosso . A month later she won the World Cup tournament in Budapest. At the World Championships in Munich she was defeated in the quarterfinals by the Japanese Ryoko Tamura . With a victory over Sarah Nichilo-Rosso, she reached the battle for a bronze medal, which she won against the South Korean Kim Young-ran . Five weeks after the World Championships, she won the title at the Universiade in Beijing . In November 2001 Carrión won a bronze medal at the Pan American Championships. At the beginning of 2002 she took third place at the Tournoi de Paris and won, as in the previous year, in Budapest. At the team world championships in Basel she won the silver medal behind the Japanese with the Cuban team. In 2003 Carrión won the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo. At the 2003 World Championships in Tokyo, she lost early to the French Frédérique Jossinet . With four wins in the round of hope, she reached the battle for bronze, which she won against the Chinese Gao Feng . At the end of 2003 Carrión finished third in the Fukuoka Cup .
