Sarah Nichilo-Rosso

Sarah Nichilo-Rosso (born October 22, 1976 in Saint-Martin-d'Hères ) is a former French judoka . She was third in the 1999 World Cup and European Champion in 1998 and 1999.

Athletic career

The 1.61 m tall Sarah Nichilo-Rosso competed in the super lightweight, the weight class up to 48 kilograms. In 1994 she was second in the Junior World Championships behind Hillary Wolf from the United States. Two weeks later she won the title at the Junior European Championships. In 1995 she won the title at the French championships ahead of Sylvie Meloux . Her first major international tournament in the adult class was the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She won her first two fights and was defeated in the quarterfinals by the North Korean Kye Sun-hui by a Yuko rating. In the round of hope she defeated Tamara Meijer from the Netherlands and Małgorzata Roszkowska from Poland prematurely, and lost the battle for bronze to the Cuban Amarilis Savón through Waza-ari. With that she finished fifth.

In early 1998 Sarah Nichilo-Rosso won the World Cup tournament in Paris. At the 1998 European Championships in Oviedo, she defeated the Italian Giorgina Zanette in the quarter-finals and Jolanta Wojnarowicz from Poland in the semi-finals , after her final victory over the Russian Tatyana Kuwschinowa she was European champion for the first time. At the end of 1998 Nichilo-Rosso won her second French championship title, as in 1995 she won the final against Sylvie Meloux. In May 1999 at the European Championships in Bratislava Nichilo-Rosso won the quarter-finals against the Belgian Ann Simons and in the semifinals against the Italian Giuseppina Macrì . In the final she defeated the Romanian Laura Moise-Moricz and was European champion for the second time. In October 1999 at the World Championships in Birmingham, she lost in the quarterfinals to the Japanese Ryoko Tamura . With victories in the hoping round against Nynke Klopstra from the Netherlands, the Chinese Tang Lihong and the Spanish Vanesa Arenas, the French won a bronze medal. In May 2000 at the European Championships in Wroclaw she lost the semifinals against the Russian Lyubow Bruletowa . In the battle for bronze, she defeated the Belarusian Tazzjana Maskwina . At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, she lost to the North Korean Cha Hyon-hyang in her opening fight after 23 seconds . After early victories over Galina Atajewa from Turkmenistan and Vanesa Arenas, she lost in her third fight of the hope round of the Chinese Zhao Shunxin after 2:42 minutes, her longest fight at the 2000 Olympic Games. Ultimately, Nichilo-Rosso finished seventh.

In early 2001 she was defeated at the French championships Frédérique Jossinet . Shortly afterwards she won the World Cup tournaments in Paris and Rome. She did not take part in the 2001 European Championships , where Jossinet won. At the 2001 World Championships in Munich, Nichilo-Rosso came seventh. Shortly thereafter, she won a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games . In 2003 she ended her sporting career.
