Giuseppina Macrì

Giuseppina Macrì (born September 3, 1974 in Crotone ) is a former Italian judoka . She was third in the 2001 World Cup and second in the European Championship in 2003.

Athletic career

The 1.58 m tall judoka fought in the half-light weight class up to 52 kilograms until 1998 , after which she competed internationally in the super light weight class up to 48 kilograms. Nationally she won four championship titles in the half-lightweight division (1996, 1997, 1998 and 2001), in 2002 she won the lightweight division.

Her greatest international success in the light weight division was the bronze medal at the 1997 Mediterranean Games in Bari. After changing the weight class, she won the student world championships at the end of 1998. At the European Championships in 1999 in Bratislava she was defeated in the semi-finals by French Sarah Nichilo , and she lost the battle for bronze to Russian Lyubov Bruletowa . Two years later at the European Championships in Paris in 2001 Macrì lost in the semifinals to the Romanian Laura Moise-Moricz , in the battle for bronze she won against the Polish Anna Żemła . Two months later, the 2001 World Championships took place in Munich . After Macrì had defeated Sarah Nichilo in the second round and the German Julia Matijass in the quarter-finals , she was defeated in the semifinals by the Japanese Ryoko Tamura . In the battle for bronze she won as at the European Championships against Anna Żemła. At the Mediterranean Games in Tunis 2001, Macrì reached the final and then lost to the Turkish Neşe Şensoy .

In early 2002 Giuseppina Macrì was defeated in the final of the Tournoi de Paris by the French Frédérique Jossinet . In March she won the World Cup tournament in Rome. At the European Championships in Maribor she was defeated in the semi-finals by Belarusian Tatjana Moskwina , in the battle for bronze she defeated the Slovenian Nives Perc . At the European Championships in 2003 in Düsseldorf Macrì won the semifinals against Julia Matijass, in the final she was defeated by Ljubow Bruletowa. In September Macrì was eliminated from the World Championships in Osaka in the round of 16 against the Portuguese Ana Hormigo . In early 2004 she won the Super World Cup tournament in Moscow. At the European Championships in Bucharest she was defeated in the quarterfinals by Romanian Alina Alexandra Dumitru . After two wins in the Hope Round, she lost the battle for bronze against Frédérique Jossinet. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she lost her first fight against the Chinese Gao Feng and was eliminated.
