Zion is the third studio album by the Australian worship band Hillsong United . It was released on February 22, 2013.

background

In an interview with CCM Magazine, Joel Houston said the group chose the title Zion because the album told the story of God in a simple and straightforward way. The album was produced by Houston and Michael Guy Chislett, and the songwriting involved Houston, Ben Tennikoff, Dean Ussher, Matt Crocker, Ryan Taubert, Salomon Lighthelm, Sam Knock and Scott Ligertwood. The album was recorded in Sydney and New York City .

criticism

Allmusic's David Jeffries gave the album a 3.5 out of 5 star rating. He praised the album for incorporating various styles of pop music and highlighted the title Tapestry , but criticized the length of some of the songs that overcrowded the album. The album received particularly positive reviews from Christian media, for example Ryan Barbee from Jesus Freak Hideout gave it 4.5 stars, he described the album as an improvement on its predecessor Aftermath and as a possible “new standard” of Christian pop music. Stephen Curry of Cross Rhythms gave the album full marks and praised the musical diversity and creativity.

In Australia , Zion went straight to number one on the album charts on March 10, 2013 . For Hillsong United it was the first number one album there. In the US , the album reached # 5, making it Hillsong United's first album in the top ten. Over 34,100 units of the album were sold in the first week. Top ten positions were also achieved in Norway and New Zealand , and the album also reached positions in the respective album charts in Belgium , Denmark , the Netherlands and the United Kingdom .
